A little about me…

Peg Davies

I have always been interested in bins, rubbish and sewerage. I ‘talk rubbish’ for a job and a passion and live by the words ‘an empty bin is a good bin’.

As a waste educator with over 13 years experience, I have worked in local government, schools and the wider community. As Costa from Gardening Australia said after our interview - “that’s probably the best waste education you’re likely to get.“

I have set up education and training programs (including Earth Carers), workshops, community gardens and school waste systems.

With 40+ years living in inner-suburban Perth, I have explored the challenges of this city and all it’s ‘stuff‘ with my project The Last Tip.

Awards and campaigns

I developed the award-winning Earth Carers course at Mindarie Regional Council (MRC) and have been involved in campaigns such as “No Glass in Green Top Bin” and “Face Your Waste.”
Awards include:

  • WA Infinity Awards - Winner Waste Innovation of the Year 2018 (MRC Face Your Waste)

  • WA Infinity Awards - Highly Commended Waste Champion 2013 (MRC Earth Carers)

  • WA Infinity Awards - Waste Champion 2011 (Peg Davies, Individual)

  • Australian Business Award - Educational Tours 2011 (MRC)

  • Perth Royal Show - Best Outdoor Site

Values

The way we choose to live, work and play can be either excessive or frugal. Whether it’s your home, workplace or school, my workshops and talks all have invaluable ‘lessence‘ - the essence of less.
And here’s the good news:

  • It doesn’t have to be a chore

  • More fun than you thought

  • Not a lot of $’s for a lot of change

  • Practical inspiration

“Thanks so much for running the two staff worm farming workshops for us, they were great. A feedback survey was sent to the workshop attendees and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.” Michelle, City of Joondalup staff workshop
